Doula
Service Agreement
Your prenatal and postpartum visits will be mutually scheduled and will typically take place virtually or in your home. Because birth is unpredictable, I occasionally need to reschedule appointments in the event that I am with a birthing family. When your time comes, I will similarly reschedule my other social and business meetings in order to be with you at your birth.
If you miss out on a prenatal visit because I had to cancel one and you have your baby before we are able to reschedule, you are entitled to a $100 refund
As your Doula I am able to provide educational resources, information, coaching and help you advocate for your wishes, it is important to note that I am not a medical professional, and I do not diagnose medical conditions or offer medical advice. I will not perform medical or diagnostic procedures. It is always the client’s responsibility to consult a medical professional if they have medical concerns at any time. In addition, while I am committed to do my best to facilitate your right to informed decision making during your birth, it is not the role of the doula to “protect” you from your chosen primary birth attendants/location. It is the client’s responsibility to choose birth attendants and location according to needs and birth philosophy. It is also not the Doula’s role to make decisions on your behalf, nor to protect you from your own choices. I am present to support you in asking good questions, reminding you that you always have choice, and to support you in your right to make your own birth choices.
Even though you have been given a "due date", normal human gestation is 37-42 weeks, a 5 week window. Due to the unpredictability of when your baby will come, doulas can never guarantee their availability on the day you birth. There is always a possibility that I will be unavailable because of extenuating circumstances, such as personal illness, family emergency, or a conflicting birth. In this event, a backup doula would be provided to support you in my place. If I am off-call and unavailable when your birth starts, you will be informed of who to contact as a backup doula.
If my time with you during birth extends beyond 12 hours, I may call in a carefully selected backup at some point to relieve me for a sleep break.
Refunds will be given under the following conditions: $1000
* In the extremely unlikely event neither myself nor my back-up doula was able to attend your birth. This does not apply if you choose not to have a back-up doula attend your birth.
Refunds are not applicable under the following conditions:
* If myself or my backup is unable to attend your birth due to you or your partner's failure to provide sufficient notice, or due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control (extremely fast labour, restrictions made by hospital, etc.), or if you choose not to have a back-up attend.
Reminder that the equivalent of your deposit is obtained to have me hold a space for you in your due window. In addition, part of the full fee goes towards paying for my time working with you prenatally during our prenatal visits and phone / email contact. Unless other payment plans have been arranged, the full balance of the fee must be paid by your 35th week of gestation.
